Sometimes it is easy to forget that humans made our computers - they seem so powerful, so mysterious, so complicated, so fast and accurate. It is easy to forget that their components are fragile things, reacting to cold and heat, solar flares, the static from your comfy fleece - much like you or I. It is easy to forget that our computers can be influenced by the minds of other humans - evil or malicious or simply curious - through the strings of thoughts created in malware and viruses. "Stupid computer" is often heard amongst the curses of frustration. And yet these little plastic boxes, that come in all sizes and varieties - from our old land line phones and faxes, to our fitbits, and e-readers, cell phones, laptops, tablets, pcs and even our quantum computers - were all built by humans, or the machines that humans built to build them. All designed by humans - from the most appealing application to the most frustrating virus... a human mind was its creator. And so I try to remember the spirit of the people who made the components, created the operating systems, devised the applications and plug-ins and all the bits and bytes - as I am working with and through the challenges of my computer. Because ultimately, computers, like everything that humans have created, are a reflection of us.
